PostSubject: Planescape/Numenera   Planescape/Numenera Icon_minitimeFri May 14, 2021 7:37 am

In the legendary city of Sigil, the Plane of Doors, our party gathers to work for the Guardious Mythica. A mysterious sect of the Ioun (Goddess of Knowledge and Magic) faith led by Father Thomas.

Father Thomas is looking for 3 items stolen from the College of Arcanaeus's Department of Unidentified items (DUI). He has hired several groups of adventures to find them, but many have fallen during their investigations.

Ontop of that, Father Thomas's personal Journal was stolen by his arch nemisis, Starslip, an elven woman who masters in Transmutation magics and possibly funded by another group.

Meanwhile, the current party of adventures are stuck on the prime material world of Oerth, on Ember Island, looking for the Riftstone for the spelljammer ship of the Ancients known as the Sky Ghost, captain by a cyborg named CACMT-338. Deep in the jungles of Ember Island the party is expolering the Temple of Daga'kwan (the Blood God) looking for the Vault of Vaxillus which might contain a Riftstone.

Planescape Campaign:

The Players:

Jon – Harl Hairfist (chaotic Neutral) Barbarian 3nd male Dwarf from Dragonlance, a banished dwarf for murder, a mercenary battlerager banished to Sigil from a Dragonlord Mage. Loves food and killing. Background – Outlander/wanderer

Mikey – Sol’listra Minx (Lawful good) Bladesinger Wizard 3nd, Male High Elf, Background – Criminal. Original from Forgotten Realms, escaped via random portal after a botched ritual by cultist

Jason – Delphis (cht. Good) Rogue Assassin 3rd – a spy for the Emerald Enclave in Faerun, accidently found his way into Sigil during a mission, discovered by Father Thomas who Delphis owed a favor to for healing him.

Amanda – Susira Alsueth (?) Wizard 3nd Female Loxodon

A curator/scribe for the University of Arcanus in Ravenica and an apprentice to Father Thomas, a priest of Ioun and a member of the Guardius Mythica.

Session 0 & 1 –

During a battle in the world of Dragonlance, Harl Hairfist was banished off the battlefield by a Dragonlord Mage and was unceremoniously dumped off in the nexus world of Sigil, the City of Doors. Finding himself in an abandoned alleyway, Harl witnesses an elderly Father Thomas being attacked by a pair of Animated suits of Plate Armor, controlled by a Female Elven Wizard named Starslip.

At the same time Susira bursts into Father Thomas’s office in Ravenica seeing an Imp creature raiding it. The creature flees through a magical portal, and Susira follows finding herself in the same situation as Harl. The imp then goes invisible as the Dude drops off Marrin in the same ally and at the mouth of the alley Sol’listra appears.

Confusion dominates the scene, but soon battle ensues as the imp reappears, steals a satchel on Father Thomas’s unconscious body and then tears out his right day. The Imp flees to the elven woman named Starslip while the animated suits of armor attack the PC’s. As the party slay the monsters, the elven mage, imp familiar in tow, flees into the gathering crowd.

As the suits melt away, a group of automatons (warforge) called Harmonious Guard move forward (forged with Baatorian Green Steel from the 9 hells, steel alloy that is resistant to fire). Father Thomas who is barely conscious whispers an address to a safehouse, and the party master a skill challenge to find the small home inside the Sai Leng District (Slave Worker District).

At this Safehouse, the party meet Sophia, Father Thomas’s Air Elemental French maid. She tends to the parties food needs, applies medicine to the elderly priest. The party takes a long rest and gain 2nd level.

The next morning the party talk and introduce themselves to Father Thomas. He explains that he and his apprentice Susira work for the University of Arcanus, specifically in the Department of Unidentified Items (DUI). Last week, 3 items were stolen, a crystal, a panther idol and a broken tablet. Also, a human undergrad name Cid disappeared. When he was attacked by his archnemesis Starslip, he was enroute to meet an informant named Dominic (captain) Zallaros (blue male Tiefling information broker). Starslip stole his notes along with his eye. Starslip is a powerful mage who seeks to become what is known as a Traveler, a master of the planes, rivaling that of a deity.

Because of his injury, Father Thomas is unable to meet with Dominic, and wishes to hire the adventures to do so for him. He agrees to pay the 60 gp total to the party, 40 up front and the remaining 20 upon delivery the information Dominic has. The party agreed, and were also given 40 gp to deliver to the information broker.

Dominic was to be found that night at the Torn Sail Drink House and eatery. With the day ahead of them, the party moved out into the city proper. Searching for Food, the party came across several bars, restaurants and exotic locales. After rejecting the “Burning Mage”, the party found themselves at the dwarven themed Inn called “The Stone Dogs”. There they were introduced to Rothe Burgers with Rothe cheese and powerful dwarven spirits (partially acid). Also had an encounter with a local thug named Skarn (a racist battlerager) and his goons, but is quickly shot down by his elder Snagger and sister Amelia.

Eventually the party finds a large well stocked bookstore called the “Three Sisters” ran by 3 human triplet sisters named Lena, Sena and Mena Owlstar. Here, Susira purchases a book called “The Lost’s Guide to the City of Sigil, Plane of Doors” (this item gives the user an advantage when rolling int checks for information about Sigil. Cast time is 10 minutes).

Towards the end of the day the party visit a large open iron and red slate gazebo with a central forge/smelter surrounded by 8 anvils, multiple display cases and armor dummies. 8 large red scaled Dragonborn smiths work these anvils making weapons and armors, while a pair of shapely red furred hobgoblins sell and deal with customers. Harl searches for adamantine weapons and gets quoted 2500 gp for a single handed weapon, 3500 gp for 2 handed. Harl also learns about Baatorian Green Steel.

Eventually the party ends up at the Torn Sail Drink House and eatery and discover its next to the Inner Docks for spell jammer ships. The Inn itself is a crashed galley ship that has been converted into a 3 story restaurant, bar and night club. A goblin flanked by Ogres (knuckles) demands a gold each for entry. After a brief encounter in the restaurant the party moves upstairs into the bar and find Dominic Zallaros drinking with 3 women in a booth.

Dominic is douche blue skin Tiefling that is dressed like captain jack sparrow. He sells the following information to the party: 3 days before the theft at the Dept. of Unidentified Items, Cid approached a known Fence named Benjie Esco. Benjie Esco is a Frost Salamander from the elemental plane of ice who runs a front warehouse in the Inner docks district called Esco Shipping and Cold Storage. 3 days after the disappearance of Cid and the stolen items, Benjie received them and sold the items to someone(s) else. Dominic believes the thief is Cid himself.

And that is where we stopped the session.

Session 2 – “Well that didn’t go to plan”

The Adventures return to Father Thomas’s safe house in the Slave Worker District. Harl witnesses some slaves being escorted through the city by demonic Alabasti creatures (demonic dragonborn).

There they are greeted by Sophia the air elemental French maid and Father Thomas. After listening to the information, Father Thomas’s offers the party a reward for finding the 3 items, 500 gp for each item returned and 500 gp for the return of Cid the undergraduate. The party accepts this and rest for the night at the safe house.

The Next morning the party heads out to Esco Shipping and Cold Storage, where they meet a pair of heavily armored and fur guardsmen named Joseph and Mikael. The 2 guards take their request to see Benjie inside, warning to the players that they should by winter clothing before going inside. When they return, the guards try to scam the players into paying them 50 gp, but fail.

Inside the party discover the place is below zero temps, there are white furred Hobgoblins as workers, a nice secretary Frost Salamander named Sally, a jovial Frost Giant guardsman name Frank. Eventually the party meet up with Benjie the Frost Salamander Fence. After listening to the party for awhile, Benjie offers the party 2 ways to pay for the information they seek for the items and Cid the undergraduate. One, pay 500 gp per item for the information, or 2, do Benjie a solid job.

The job is simple, clear out a piece of property Benjie owns of a small gang of smugglers who are squatting in it. The party accept.

But things go south from there, the party enter an abandon mansion obviously ran down, inside they find tracks leading to a trap door. The trap door is trapped with a fear magic trap via Magic Mouth. Realizing that the smugglers have been alerted, the party blitz downstairs, Harl and Delphis held up by the fear trap for several rounds. Below the party quickly slay some bandits, a scout and a mage named Sandbet.

But things go badly when the rest of the gang show up from the caverns below, several more bandits, scouts and hobgoblins. The battle rages for awhile, but eventually the party is over whelmed and knocked unconscious. We ended the session as the party awoke bound and nude and realizing they were in the bottom of a sea ship.

The party leveled up to level 3.

Session 3 – TPK?

Well that was kind of fucked. But fun. The party attempted to escape the pirate ship, slew ¾ of the crew. The only one to escape was Sol’lista Minx, who then swam to Ember island. The Sky Ghost become fully converted into CACMT338 (Cybernetic Airship Capable of Multiverse Travel).

Session 4 – A new beginning?

Mikey – Sol’listra Minx – (LG) Female High Elf Wizard Bladesinger 4th level

Amanda – Rokna Zognith – Male Drow Elf Wizard Order of Scribes 4th level

Jason – Sir Duncan – Warforge Forge Cleric 1st/Eldritch Knight 3rd

Jon – Deckland – Male Half-Orc Paladin of Devotion 4th level

At the request of Father Thomas, Priest of Ioun, the goddess of Knowledge and Magic, one of the leaders of Guardious Mythic in the college of Arcananus, the party is assembled. They are paid 100 gp each and 2 healing potions each up front to rescue the missing party who were pursuing the stolen objects from the College of Arcanus, Department of Unidentified Items (DUI). The party members are offered an additional 250 gp each if the missing Luxodon and or her items are returned to the College.

The new party quickly follow the same footsteps as the previous party and get the same offer from Benjie as the before. They then follow the trail at the haunted smuggler mansion and discover a Portal at the bowls of its dungeon. A magical portal stone in the shape of a bullseye lantern opens the portal to Oerth, and the waiting Spelljammer ship known as Sky Ghost, now a completely converted into Numerica (ancient tech) and is eager to rejoin the Purpose. The ship offers to help the party recover the surviving member of the group and turn over the items if the party recover the Riftstone for the CACMT338. The party grudgingly agrees.

3 days travel the party explore the ship, meet AVIS the ships engine core attendee. Also they meet Colbert the Resourcerer in the cargo hold.

They soon arrive to the primitive fishing village of the Olman people called Shuma-Shuma, just north end of Ember Island near Kilja’wanda mountain. Here the party meet Sol’lista and the Shuma-Shuma tribe.

During there discussions, a loud dinosaur shout is heard and the tribe is excited as it has captured the fable stegosaurus known as Bay’glador. The party assists in slaying the mighty beast and win over the tribes respect. That night, much feasting has been done.

In the morning, the party is lead by a pair of tribal warriors to the ruins of Daga’kwan, the Blood God, because below it is where the Vault of Vaxillus, the Dragonborn Scholar of the Ancients. Along the way the party avoided a mud pit hazard but were later harassed by a mob of Baboons who caused the party to keep moving in the jungles overwhelming humided and made Deckland take a level in exhaustion.

Later that night the party was attacked by a group of ghouls who were quickly slain. And that’s where we ended the session.

Session 5 – Reaching the Ruins of Daga’Kwan

Continuing with the journey, the party is meet with sever humid and rainy weather as they attempt to cross a large and deep chasm via rickety old bridge. All people cross, one of the guides nearly falling through. Later that day the party reach steep wet bedrock hillside. Here the tribal warriors of Shuma-Shuma part ways from the party, claiming the ruins are on the far side of this steep hill in a swamp at the base of Kilja’wanda Mountain.

Once the party safely scaled the hillside, they were surprised attacked by a monstrous Shambling Mound, who heavily damaged the warforged warrior but was eventually slain. With in its innards the party discovered a magical black pouch, holding many treasure inside. Once the party reached the edge of the tree line and could see the ruins, the group decided to rest the night.

Late that night, they party was attacked by a hunting huge sized flying dinosaur, but they quickly hurt it enough to make the creature flee.

The next day, the party attempted to transverse down the boggy hill to the massive ziggurat ruins of Daga’Kwan, dodging several dangers (sucking mud, massive hornets nests and huge sized bullfrog) but discovering the flying dinosaurs from the previous night had a nest and family on top of the ruins. They attacked as the party advanced upon the ruins, but they were quickly slain and routed (Daddy got away). Once inside the top level where the steps led, they found an overgrown open area with stairs leading up and down, 4 massive weather worn statues vaguely humanoid holding up bowls of some kind. Inlayed into the floor is a massive bronze bowl with drains, and pipes in the ceiling directly above it. They moved upstairs to the top of the ruins to investigate the dinosaurs nest, finding an ancient altar, skeletons with 2 different holy symbols, one of a eight pointed star with a fang, and another with an odd hand with a tear/water drop inside of it.

And that’s where we stopped the session.

Session 6 – Delving Deeper into the Ziggurat

After a long rest, later in the day the party delved deeper into the Ruins of Daga’kwan. In the depths, the party found a temple divided into 2 factions, finding 2 shrines. A shrine of Night Eternal, with a trapped offering stone tray laden with treasure, and a Shrine of Blood Letting lair of a King Cobra.

Our intrepid adventures spread out in this floor, battling and slaying the huge king cobra, tripping an ancient arcane trap putting Rokna into a coma, later the magic dispelled by Sol’listra using an old lost spell book. Deckland managed to figure out the magical puzzle to open the door to the central heart chamber, where the stairs leading down further into the ruins.

Sol’listra then used her Ghost Tattoo gained from the Shuma-Shuma people to phase through walls into a secret room where the priest of old stored their equipment, coming out with an arm load of treasure.

Eventually the party delved deeper, the next floor down opening up into The Blood Inn, an ancient Mayan styled stone bar, slightly illuminated with dying drift globes. Evidence of some event of violence can be seen around this massive area, the party begins to search the floor. Session 7 – Hey, we found the thingy!

Resting in one of the ancient acolytes quarters, the players took a long rest, leveling up their characters. During this time the players began to hear a spooky creepy whispering and claws against stone. Eventually they went out to investigate and where ambushed by a horde of starved ghouls and ghasts crawling up from the floor below. The battle was brief, the players quickly dispatching them with their newly founded powers.

Afterward they cautiously travelled further into the ziggraut, discovering the level that was below the water table of the swamp outside. The first chamber was obviously a torturer’s chamber, filled with long rusted and rotted devices of pain and death. A chamber dedicated to devil summoning was found in a side room.

Sir Duncan discovering a secret room also discovered it was protected with a Glyph of warding. Inside they discovered the long lost quarters of the High Priest/torturer of the Daga’Kwan cult, along with his necromantic spellbook and also his hidden treasure chest along with stairs leading down to a Secret level. The chest was also trapped, summoning a Vampiric Mist which the party slew.

After slaying the mist, they party attempted to investigate the rest of the level, fighting through a Bone Golem, a Bone Naga , discovered a haunted latrine and eventually confronted the Ghoul Necromancer who held the powerful, but small Riftstone.

The party performed flawlessly, slaying undead, constructs, abberations and a mighty necromancer lair, (all the while testing the durability of the stone doors craftmenship.) slaying all inside and getting the loot. And that’s where we ended the night.

Kill count – x7 ghouls, x4 ghasts, x1 gibbering mouther, x2 bone nagas, a bone golem, a vampiric mist and a ghoul necromancer w/magical lair.

Session 8 – We are leaving!

We start the session with the party resting for a long rest back up a few levels in the Ruins of Daga’kwan. With renewed spells and HP, the party venture down into the bowls of the Ruins, into the prison of the Bloodletters and the Master (a.k.a Daga’kwan). While investigating the round and strange chamber deep under the Ziggurat, Sir Duncan accidently triggers the Bronze Golem stationed in front of the steel double doors.

The Golem moves with pre-existing orders to pull the levers hidden behind a panel, freeing the Bloodletters. A massive battle ensues, where the party is assaulted by multiple alien vampire spawn, a pair of Bronze Golems and the Master himself. But with the arcane might and holy energies and impenetrable armor, the party slew all but the master, who fled the battle.

Inside the prison the adventures found a solid silver Iron Maiden torture device, and set about deconstructing it to salvage into wealth. Also they found a pair of doors locked with riddles, easily solved by the wizards. Inside the doors where treasure vaults filled with much coin, art pieces and gems!

The paladin of Bahumat, Deckland, then summoned a celestial steed, an Oxen! The party then loaded much loot into a pouch of holding, a bag of holding and the back of a celestial oxen and moved to leave the Ruins of Daga’kwan and transverse for 2 days back through the Jungles of Ember Island. Eventually the party return back the olman fishing village of Shuma-Shuma, and reveled in celebrating, hunting, tattooing and teaching of smithing at the village for 4 days.

But after these downtime activities where complete, the party returned to their row boat and returned to the cyborg spelljammer ship, Sky Ghost. There they were eerily greeted by the ships Navigator, CACMT338. But from there negotiations between Sol’listra and CACMT338 over the Riftstone power source begin to fall apart. It is obvious that neither the party nor the Navigator trust each other (shocking! Lol) and when no quarter is given and the magical items of Boots of Striding and Springing are refused. The party is told to leave, and as they turn to do so, Sol’listra flings a pair of Alchemy Fire Flasks at CACMT338 as Rokna casts fireball in the chamber.

And that is where we ended our session!

Treasure gained – 243 pp, 4,425 gp, 15,749 sp, Solid Silver Iron Maiden door weighting 1000 lbs. (worth 2500 gp), Embroidered silk cloak of Bahumat (25 gp), set of engraved blue quarts dice (25 gp), gold locket with noble woman pic inside (25 gp), ceremonial silk tabard of Bahumat (25 gp), Duelist Rapier +2, Half-plate armor, shield, dungeoneer’s pack, great sword, morning star, hand crossbow, x20 bolts, x4 blue quarts gems (10 gp each), x2 flasks of alchemy fire, x2 flasks of antitoxin, x4 vials of acid, x4 flasks of holy water, x2 potions of Greater Healing, potion of climbing, Scroll of Charm person, x2 amethyst gems (100 gp each), splint mail armor, flanged mace, jeweler’s kit, lute, thieves tools, navigator’s tools, climbers kit, Wind Fan (ornate with flower details, Staff of the Python (command word “Ssethikka come forth”) Wand of Magic Missile (steel rod with blue quartz at the tip, command word Bam-bam).
